# Translate, then review.

AI gets a page into Spanish or Japanese in seconds, and most of it is right. The rest is a wrong word, a stiff sentence or a name translated that should never have been. So every page waits in a queue until someone fluent reads every line, fixes what's off and approves it. Pick a page to see the review.

Example content. Kestrel Bay Aquarium is invented, and we wrote these translations for the demo, the machine's mistakes included.

The review queue runs on the page at https://nr10.com/labs/translate-review/.

## The statuses

- **Machine-translated.** AI's draft, checked by code for names, numbers and glossary terms. Not yet read by a person.
- **In review.** A fluent reviewer is reading every line against the English.
- **Approved.** The reviewer signed off. One click puts it on the site.
- **Live.** On the site, in the language menu.

### Plan your visit, Spanish (Approved, reviewed by Lucía R.)

- English: Plan your visit
  - Machine: Planifica tu visita
  - Reviewer: Planifique su visita
  - Note: Usted, per the Spanish style guide.
- English: Kestrel Bay Aquarium is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving and December 25.
  - Machine: El Acuario de la Bahía del Cernícalo está abierto todos los días de 9 a.m. a 5 p.m., excepto Acción de Gracias y el 25 de diciembre.
  - Reviewer: Kestrel Bay Aquarium abre todos los días de 9 a. m. a 5 p. m., excepto el Día de Acción de Gracias y el 25 de diciembre.
  - Note: The machine translated the name word for word. The glossary keeps it in English, so it matches the signs. Also the holiday's full name, and a. m. and p. m. spelled the Spanish way.
- English: Strollers are welcome on every floor, and wheelchairs are free to borrow at the information desk.
  - Machine: Los cochecitos son bienvenidos en todos los pisos, y las sillas de ruedas son libres para pedir prestado en el escritorio de información.
  - Reviewer: Las carriolas son bienvenidas en todos los pisos, y puede pedir prestada una silla de ruedas sin costo en el mostrador de información.
  - Note: "Libres" means unrestricted, not free of charge. An "escritorio" is a desk you work at; a service desk is a "mostrador". "Carriola" is the word most of our Spanish-speaking visitors use.
- English: Don't miss the touch pool, where you can gently meet sea stars and anemones with a guide.
  - Machine: No te pierdas la piscina táctil, donde puedes conocer suavemente estrellas de mar y anémonas con un guía.
  - Reviewer: No se pierda el estanque de contacto, donde puede tocar con cuidado estrellas de mar y anémonas con la ayuda de un guía.
  - Note: A "piscina" is a swimming pool. "Conocer suavemente" doesn't say what happens: visitors touch the animals, carefully.
- English: Parking is free in Lot B, a two-minute walk from the main entrance.
  - Machine: El estacionamiento es gratis en el Lote B, a dos minutos a pie de la entrada principal.

### Plan your visit, Japanese (In review, reviewed by Haruka M.)

- English: Plan your visit
  - Machine: 訪問を計画する
  - Reviewer: ご来館案内
  - Note: A literal "to plan a visit." Japanese museum and aquarium sites call this page ご来館案内.
- English: Kestrel Bay Aquarium is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving and December 25.
  - Machine: チョウゲンボウ湾水族館は、感謝祭と12月25日を除き、毎日午前9時から午後5時まで開いています。
  - Reviewer: ケストレルベイ水族館は、感謝祭（11月の第4木曜日）と12月25日を除き、毎日午前9時から午後5時まで開館しています。
  - Note: The machine translated the name (チョウゲンボウ is the bird); the glossary spells it in katakana. 開館 is the word for an aquarium being open. We added the date, since 感謝祭 isn't a holiday Japanese visitors can place.
- English: Strollers are welcome on every floor, and wheelchairs are free to borrow at the information desk.
  - Machine: ベビーカーはすべての階で歓迎され、車椅子は案内デスクで無料で借りることができます。
  - Reviewer: ベビーカーのまま、すべてのフロアをご覧いただけます。車椅子は総合案内で無料で貸し出しています。
  - Note: "歓迎され" is a stiff passive that reads as translated. Polite form instead, and 総合案内 is what visitors look for on the floor map.
- English: Don't miss the touch pool, where you can gently meet sea stars and anemones with a guide.
  - Machine: タッチプールをお見逃しなく。ガイドと一緒にヒトデやイソギンチャクに優しく会うことができます。
  - Reviewer: タッチプールもお見逃しなく。スタッフと一緒に、ヒトデやイソギンチャクにやさしく触れることができます。
  - Note: "会う" (meet) is too literal: visitors touch them. ガイド becomes スタッフ, the way Japanese aquariums say it.
- English: Parking is free in Lot B, a two-minute walk from the main entrance.
  - Machine: 駐車場はB駐車場で無料で、正面玄関から徒歩2分です。
  - Reviewer: B駐車場は無料でご利用いただけます。正面入口から徒歩2分です。
  - Note: The machine's sentence repeats 駐車場 and runs two facts together. 正面入口 is the usual word for the entrance of a public building.
  - Open question: Is Lot B still free on holidays? The Japanese page shouldn't promise more than the English one does. Answer: Yes, every day of the year. Confirmed with the front desk, Oct 28.

### Tickets and membership, Spanish (In review, reviewed by Lucía R.)

- English: Tickets and membership
  - Machine: Entradas y membresía
  - Reviewer: Boletos y membresías
  - Note: "Boletos" is what most of our Spanish-speaking visitors in the US say. "Entradas" reads as Spain.
- English: Adults $29, kids 3 to 12 $19, and kids under 3 get in free.
  - Machine: Adultos $29, niños de 3 a 12 $19, y los niños menores de 3 entran libres.
  - Reviewer: Adultos: $29. Niños de 3 a 12 años: $19. Menores de 3 años: entrada gratuita.
  - Note: "Libres" again: free of charge is "gratis" or "gratuita". Ages need "años", and a list reads better than one long line.
- English: Members get in free all year, skip the ticket line and bring a guest for half price.
  - Machine: Los miembros entran gratis todo el año, se saltan la línea de boletos y traen un invitado a mitad de precio.
  - Reviewer: Los miembros entran gratis todo el año, no hacen fila en la taquilla y pueden traer a un invitado a mitad de precio.
  - Note: "Línea" for a queue is an anglicism; "hacer fila" is natural. "Traen" needed "pueden traer".
- English: Buy online and save $3 per ticket. Tickets are good for any day within 30 days.
  - Machine: Compra en línea y ahorra $3 por boleto. Los boletos son buenos para cualquier día dentro de 30 días.
  - Reviewer: Compre en línea y ahorre $3 por boleto. Los boletos son válidos cualquier día durante los 30 días siguientes a la compra.
  - Note: "Son buenos para" is a word-for-word calque; tickets are "válidos". We asked the box office: the 30 days start on the day of purchase, so the Spanish says so.

### Tickets and membership, Japanese (Machine-translated)

- English: Tickets and membership
  - Machine: チケットとメンバーシップ
  - Automatic check: Glossary: "membership" is 年間パスポート on this site.
- English: Adults $29, kids 3 to 12 $19, and kids under 3 get in free.
  - Machine: 大人29ドル、3歳から12歳の子供19ドル、3歳未満の子供は無料で入ります。
  - Automatic check: Numbers match the source: 29, 3, 12, 19 and 3.
- English: Members get in free all year, skip the ticket line and bring a guest for half price.
  - Machine: メンバーは一年中無料で入場でき、チケットの列をスキップし、ゲストを半額で連れてくることができます。

  - Machine: オンラインで購入して、チケットごとに3ドルを節約しましょう。チケットは30日以内のいつでも有効です。
  - Automatic check: Unclear in the English too: 30 days from when? Flagged for the reviewer to ask.

### Home, Spanish (Live, reviewed by Lucía R.)

- English: Meet the ocean next door.
  - Machine: Conoce el océano de al lado.
  - Reviewer: Descubra el océano a la vuelta de la esquina.
  - Note: "De al lado" sounds like the neighbor's yard. "A la vuelta de la esquina" keeps the idea of close to home, in usted like the rest of the site.
- English: Kestrel Bay Aquarium is home to more than 4,000 animals from the bay and beyond.
  - Machine: El Acuario de la Bahía del Cernícalo es el hogar de más de 4.000 animales de la bahía y más allá.
  - Reviewer: Kestrel Bay Aquarium es el hogar de más de 4,000 animales de la bahía y de otros mares.
  - Note: The name stays in English, per the glossary. For readers in the US the thousands separator is a comma.
- English: Watch the sea otters at feeding time, daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  - Machine: Mira las nutrias marinas a la hora de comer, diariamente a las 11 a.m. y 2 p.m.
  - Reviewer: Vea a las nutrias marinas a la hora de comer, todos los días a las 11 a. m. y a las 2 p. m.
  - Note: Usted, the personal "a" before the otters, and a. m. and p. m. spelled the Spanish way.
- English: Plan your visit
  - Machine: Planifique su visita

### Home, Japanese (Live, reviewed by Haruka M.)

- English: Meet the ocean next door.
  - Machine: 隣の海に会いましょう。
  - Reviewer: いちばん近くの海に、会いに来ませんか。
  - Note: "隣の海" reads as the sea belonging to the house next door. Rewritten as an invitation, the way Japanese aquarium sites open.
- English: Kestrel Bay Aquarium is home to more than 4,000 animals from the bay and beyond.
  - Machine: チョウゲンボウ湾水族館は、湾とその先から来た4,000匹以上の動物の家です。
  - Reviewer: ケストレルベイ水族館では、地元の湾をはじめ世界の海から集まった4,000点以上の生きものに出会えます。
  - Note: The machine translated the name word for word; the glossary spells it in katakana. "動物の家" is a literal "home for animals", and Japanese aquariums count their collection in 点.
- English: Watch the sea otters at feeding time, daily at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
  - Machine: 毎日午前11時と午後2時の給餌時間にラッコを見てください。
  - Reviewer: ラッコのお食事タイムは、毎日午前11時と午後2時です。
  - Note: "見てください" sounds like an instruction. Japanese aquariums announce feeding as an event: お食事タイム.
- English: Plan your visit
  - Machine: 訪問を計画する
  - Reviewer: ご来館案内
  - Note: A literal "to plan a visit." This page is called ご来館案内 on Japanese aquarium sites.

## AI for speed. People for meaning.

The plugin we build sits on top of WPML or Polylang, the multilingual plugins most WordPress sites already use.

- **AI drafts with your rules.** Each page goes to an AI model with your glossary (names that never get translated, terms that always do) and a style guide per language, like usted or tú in Spanish and polite form in Japanese.
- **Code checks the draft.** Before a person sees it: numbers, prices, dates, links and glossary terms are compared with the English, and anything that doesn't match is flagged for the reviewer.
- **A fluent human reads every line.** Your reviewer, or one of ours, works side by side in WordPress: fix, comment, ask a question. A page can't be approved with a question open.
- **Approved pages publish.** Approval makes the page live in the language menu. When the English changes later, only the changed lines come back to the queue, so reviewers never redo a whole page.

Reviewers are people fluent in the language, not a second AI. The AI never approves or publishes anything, and the queue keeps a record of who approved each page and when.
